Pupil Librarians

Our excellent team of pupil librarians help with the smooth running of the library.

Any pupil can apply to become a pupil librarian and will be expected to give up free time at break and lunch to work at the issue desk, tidy the shelves, choose new books, assist pupils at computers, and help the librarian with displays and events.

Each pupil librarian is also encouraged to suggest a project. Here are just some recent examples:

  • creating a 'Pride' display
  • arranging a 'quiet' place in the library
  • World Book Day competition for staff and students
  • creating an Earth Day competition based on climate change

What are the benefits for the pupil librarians?

Pupils may use their work in the library as evidence of volunteering

They also get an opportunity to visit the Book Festival and meet visiting authors, even if their class is not directly involved.

Pupil librarians should be

  • enthusiastic
  • keen to help others
  • reliable and
  • trustworthy.

Pupils will be given the opportunity to complete an application form, they will be interviewed by senior pupil librarians, and will then undergo training on what is required to maintain library shelves and stock. Following their probationary period, they will be awarded a badge to prove they have the skills required.
